PID Problem

Featured Replies

Had my car for nearly 3 months and my PID is partially broken

I remove it when parked up each day

The problem: the sat nav voices don't work, they sound like that of a crackily radio on both him and her

I have phoned my dealer and all he said was to phone the service guys on Monday

What do you guys reckon I should do or what the problem is?

Thank you

Chris

Chris is this evident through both the internal speaker in the PID and through the radio speakers? If through the radio speakers only does it happen when the car is not moving?

Both have tried on the Stand in car and also just in the house on its own

Ok, that rules out faults in the speakers/interface in the car and the speaker in the PID. Did you download Navigon Fresh from the Navigon website and do a backup when things were working correctly? If so try a restore to see if it is software related. Have you the latest firmware installed? If there was still the same issue then it would seem that it is likely it is hardware related within the PID.

Try resetting the unit, the reset is on the underside edge.

I had to reset mine when the sat nav voices were very low and couldn't be turned up, all ok now.

edit

And mine randomly switches itself on. It was sitting on a side unit in the house, has been there all week and suddenly it came to life, weird.

Ive had a few issues with my PID, such as when i take the key out of the ignition sometimes a small sound clip of the last music track played is heard from the PID built in speaker, i found this only really happens if I dont hit the pause button when listening from the SD card and then switch off the radio. I also found when playing music from the SD card in the PID i get a small pop or DC offset coming through the tweeters, clearly the PID needs some filters on the audio output to get rid of this as it does not do it when playing tracks from a CD

plus i have found it has frozen a few times trying to use the Satnav.

I have the latest firmware, but need to update to the latest maps so I will have a look then at resetting it

No previous backup then from when everything was working ok?

Make sure you do a backup before doing anything else re updating maps etc.

When you do the map upgrade, select only the countries you are likely to use as if you select all there's not enough room in the internal memory.

Ask me how I know... :(

CFB, the latest map updates were on mine when I checked. I did wonder about whether to only tick the maps I wanted, basically Ireland and the UK. When I ticked them all it said that there would be about 300MB + space left, about the same as before. Was this not true in your case? Secondly, what happens when only a few maps are downloaded.......are all the older maps deleted in the process, leaving the space free?

I'm not sure if this made a difference, but I had done a map update previously and just selected all maps.

When I came to do the latest update, at first I just did the select all thing and it started but gave a not enough memory error at about 40% complete.

I then started looking at the available space in memory and selected just UK and France.

The update must delete the previous version because when the update finished, as you say, the amount of space left was the same.

If that's the case I don't know why the original update wouldn't complete

Even if older maps were not deleted in a minimised map download at least the download update time should be much shorter.

just to let you know I used the reset button thing, and the voices are working fine, I haven't had a chance to update the maps yet though

All adding to the fund of knowledge  Glad that it sorted out the voices for you and good to know.
