2001 VRS MAF

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I picked up a VRS for good money a few weeks ago and im now getting round tosorthing the few issues its got.

First is that the management and ESP lights are on, the management code is P0102 so I ordered a Bosch recon MAF and changed that out and reset the code. The management light goes out but not the ESP one. Problem is that it stays out for 2 or 3 starts and then comes back on. The wiring to it looks good.

I've to get a vag code reader to check the ESP codes.

Any notion of what might be causing the MAF to come back up? Im going to check for hose issues in the morning but anything to narrow it down would be good

Nobody any ideas? Checked the hoses today and no signs of any leaks

So,you expected that the MAF sensor will sort the ESP light?

No.

The management and the esp lights were on which from what I have read is common when the MAF is faulty. I replaced the MAF with a new one (well an OE Repro one) and the management light went out but not the esp. The management light then came back on with the same P0102 MAF code after 3-4 starts.

My question is what might cause the MAF fault after a new sensor is fitted and what are the common (if there are any) faults on the esp system?

Im not in any way new to working on cars or to turbos but this is my first vag.

Esp could be a number of things but acceleration sensors are known to fail. As for 'recon' MAF (bought from Eurocrap parts).... mine lasted two days. I now have an (expensive) genuine dealer item.

When it comes to replacing any of the engine sensors genuine VAG parts really are a must. I once made the mistake of buying a MAF from GSF for a mkiv Golf, & the car was undriveable! Fitted a VAG MAF & all was perfect.

Moral here is buy cheap & buy twice.

acceleration sensors???

acceleration sensors???

Yes acceleration sensors or accelerometers. lateral (or yaw) and logitudinal (or acceleration) sensors used by esp as well as steering input (angle) etc. Not sure as to their location without researching it but My car has a sensor fail at the minute but i am removing esp (TT quick rack) so havn't looked.

I dont think its the MAF at fault at this point, I think something is leaking. I need to do more digging
