Now showing red light with "brake failure" see the manuals

Sounds like t's time to get upside down and ave a poke around to work out what's going on.

If it's the same as on Passats there's a plastic locating plate in the back of the pedal arm which locates a ball on the end of a pushrod. I snapped this on mine putting my foot under the brake pedal to pull the seat forward. This made the pedal appear a bit loose, affected the brake lights and the throttle.

thanks for that

just ordered my switch from "eurocarparts"

how easy to fit it ?????????????????????

Simple and well within the scope of a DIY'er. At 6'4" I'm not exactly designed for being upside down in a footwell, but I managed it no trouble.

Very very easy

Would you believe it, driving home last night and pulled away from having slowed down; ENGINE WORKSHOP error. Hooked up diagnostics, the fault indicated is "brake switch implausible signal" - so looks like mine might be on the way out too. Dropping like flies! :)

Hopefully that's all it is....

"brake switch implausible signal"

Isn't it an odd turn of diagnostic phrase - 'implausible': unbelievable, improbable, unlikely, doubtful

It's either working or it ain't surely? I could even understand it saying intermittent, but 'unlikely' just feels to me like an unwillingness to accept it's gone wrong.

I'll get my coat :bandit:

i may have been lucky, but i had an error code which pointed to the brake pedal switch. before i purchased a new one i applied some wd40 and refitted and voila! its fixed with no errors.
