Temp Problems - sorting themselfs out...?

Featured Replies

Right...... I dont know whats going on here.....

Bought a 51 plate Vrs, Spoke to the guy who was selling it and he said its been sat round for a couple of months, been having a look at the motor and noticed it needed a service and that the temp gauge never gets above 70-75 when driving.

Tried all the usual suspects as per other threads, make sure fans are working/not working with the climate, Scan with Vag Com, Code sometimes comes up.

Last night i serviced the car, Installed a new sensor, scanned it after every drive i did and no code but the temp still only gets to 90 when stopped..... Bought a stat at the same time as the sensor as i know these can be a pain....

Well off to VW to get some G12++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ and it seemed to hold 90 better than before.... it seems to be getting better????

Anyone ever known of a car which has been stood for the stat to get sticky but after use it frees up?

I intend to do the stat tonight anyway it just seems odd its fixing itself?!

thanks for any help....... and if anyone wants to come and help me change the stat in the dark tonight i might make the tea as i really Cannot be bothered to do it as its a PITA!

Sounds like a stat problem

Easy to change you just need a u joint on the rachet

If I did mine anyone can !!!

Yea i know i can..... i just cannot be bothered.... its dark cold and windy

When was lastime belt was done and did it have waterpump at same time as they have plastic impellors on them and can get brittel and snap off or the hole lot can come loose from shaft

Without a doubt sounds like the thermostat, you can use the old o ring but worth fitting a new one (in case you haven't bought it)

I don't want to have to do one of them again...... was the stat. Just need to keep an eye on levels.. That bottom bolt is a right pain. Can enjoy the car now :D
