Earth Point Location

Featured Replies

My ICE install has started (more in seperate thread when I got some pictures to go with it) and I thought it would be wise to see if anyone knows where I can find a suitable earth point in the boot of an Octavia? Nothing sticked out as a sore thumb when I looked...

Q,

I would have thought that the bolts holding the CD changer down might have sufficed. Other than that, there's bound to be something around the tail lamp cluster - I'm sure someone will be along with specific real soon now!!

Cheers,

in mine (may be different) there is a bolt near the tailights, it's used as the earth for the 12v socket in the boot.

Could I just pick any bit of bare metal? Am not an expert in electrics, and I'd hate to see my precious go up in smoke when I change tracks on the mStation ;)

Probably best to pick a proper earth point... :D

I'd imagine there will be a bolt somewhere near the lights on the hatch that will have some wires

hooked round it - this would be a good bet...

Rob.

yes any metal will do but there is an earth point just under n/s/r light a 13mm headed nut with a few brown wires going to it.

Oh dont confuse me with this N/S/R business ;)

Whilst 'demolishing' the car I found this one:

It is located behind the carpet in the boot where the little net holder thingy is (R.I.P.). That the same?

That's OSR :D

So I've found this site which explained what OSR, OSF, NSR & NSF stand for... But it still doesnt make sense!

If you say that the picture I posted is OSR (off side rear), does that mean that the drivers side is always reffered to as 'off side' ?

It is in this country.

Its all in relation to the kerb :D

Bah humbug... So confusing...

Q -

Look for a bolt or similar that already has a couple of connections going to it, and that should be an earth point :)

On the fabia, the one I used is on the left-hand side as you look into the boot - under the rear speaker, with a plastic upturned "crown" that helps hold the wires...

You could always ring your dealer and ask them...

I started off using one of the bolts that held the rear light cluster in place which also worked, but was a bit sketchy!

I'll see what I can find on the NSR (as suggested by big k).

What sort of wire should I be using for earthing? The same thickness as for the powercable (4AWG), or can I suffice with much less than that?

You would want the same thickness as the 12v cable , no less.

you could use the largish bolt holding an end of the seat belt under the rear seat.
