You could ask the same about wing mirrors and other things that tend to break. If there's a fortune to be made, they will make it.

There is also the cost covering of all the design and testing work though, the engineers who work in these fields charge quite a lot of money :p

The manufacture involves a high degree of manual labour rather than automation add to that the cost of the machines required to make them, the very tight tolerances and design issues and the final testing and balancing of the units mean it is not a straight forward and easy process. I think the 15 mins to build is probably the final piecing together and possibly the balancing spin and grind. Cost is probably also kept high as they are not a mass produced item and the market is probably quite small, especially for uprated ones rather than the stock oem units.

Nice vid though.

The amount of manual labour and the minute adjustments needed explain the cost I think.
