Broken into last night

Featured Replies

Had the passenger side window smashed last night.

Not sure if the lack of a lock on the glove box was a bonus or not - with the exception of glass everywhere - little damage other than to wallet. Lost an ipod and a dab radio and a credit card that I'd left in the glove box out of habit as I'd once forgot my wallet when I refuelled.

Car full of water but I'm not sure the alarm went off? PITA this morning though - I'm away working for the next 7 days and the local Skoda dealer was no help at all - suggested they could get the glass on Tuesday, Autoglass can get one on Monday and are fitting a temporary perspex panel today.

Has anyone had a temporary repair like this and if so what's the car like to drive and will it be secure (well I guess the glass window wasn't!)

The one thought I had when I got a skoda was that it wouldn't be the target of low lifes and thieves - my previous car had a list price of £50k and wasn't touched in 4 years.....

I'm sorry to hear about the headache you have been left with.

These scum bags don't go on car brands, they are after the contents. I do think the lack of lock on the glove box may be a factor, however it just means they didn't have to use a crowbar on your dash.

Luckily not been in this situation (touch wood) but someone did once reverse a truck tail lift into my rear screen on an Octavia, on Xmas Eve.

Drop to the local Autowindscreens depot and they fitted for me. Find it hard to believe that Autoglass can't supply until Monday. Have you tried National Windscreens?

Autoglass is the default for the insurance company and as it was still pouring with rain they said I could leave it with them under cover and get a cab to where I'm working.

They are fitting a perspex one later today.

Sorry to hear about your break in :(. The perspex one should be ok temporary however it will be quite noisy my mum had to have that with her avensis a few years ago for a week as they couldn't get the right side window glass as it was a new model and for some reaon DVLA insisted and told autoglass it was a Corolla lol.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had my rear quarterlight broken so the vandal could access the boot, but they didn't manage to steal anything. Autoglass came out and covered it in clingfilm because they didn'y carry stock for quarterlights. Two days later they came back but had the wrong glass (the box lied), Two days after that they came back with the right glass.

The clingfilm was ok at stopping the weather but nothing else.

Sounds about right for Autoglass, taking several attempts to get it right, I dont trust them having used them twice & the service being rubbish.

Hope you get sorted quickly.

Absolute no respect anywhere nowadays.
