VAG Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

I am not happy with the brakes on my car (see left).

What brakes from other VAG cars will be a striaght swap. Ideally with a slightly bigger disc size, but still has to fit under the standard 16inch alloys.

Any suggestions?

312mm front discs and calipers off a vrs and they fit behind 16in wheels

Thought they might work, didn't know what size they were. Thanks.

Forgot to add to the opening post, needs to be cheap lol

for upgrading to 312mm discs you don't need VRS calipers, the old ones will fit perfectly

Only new caliper braces for 312mm will be needed, and of course new 312 mm rotors

I've spoke to a few people wich have done that, and the improving isn't much....for better results change the rubber brake hoses with braided steel ones

Might be an idea to change discs and pads first to see if that makes any differance,

I changed mine to bosch discs and pads from the cheap rubbish it had in and it made a big differance

Yes thats right the 312 carrier is needed as is the disc, though you can often get complete kits that come with the braided lines, for the price of the carriers, they are the expensive bit surprisingly!

The 312 upgrade does offer a noticeable difference over braking, especially with less brake fade, good pads really help with this too.

So are my callipers the same as the ones on a VRS, just different carriers?

In essence yes. You need a different carrier to be able to utilise the bigger disc.

As others have said, some good discs, pads and uprated fluid will also help. I ran Ferrodo DS2500 pads on my fabia. Awesome stoppers.

ye basically they are

I am in the process of downgrading my 312's (going all eco :D) so will have a set of calliper carriers and some very good condition Pagid coated discs available. Are you on 288's? As if my old carriers are fubar I may be looking.
