2.0 VRS CR - Dash lights on engine startup

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has experience of this before I take it for diagnostics under warranty.

I'm getting some diagnostic dashboard lights back on while the engine turns over, mostly from what I can see associated with traction control / abs.

The lights clear less than a second after the engine starts. The lights are also cleared once the ignition sequence is complete.

Car drives fine and starts up ok with no lights shown during normal driving.

This has come on in the past 3 or 4 weeks and the car is now doing much shorter journeys than it used to, although DPFs are completing ok on my weekend drives - in addition the weather is getting colder. Not sure if these are linked to the fault.

Here is a link to a video of the startup, but the video is still processing https://vimeo.com/53024820

Car is a 2010 Octavia VRS 2.0 CR with 28k on the clock. Last service was around 9 months ago. Oil and water levels are regularly checked.

Cheers :)

Mike

Not sure I understand exactly what you mean but the problems I had with dash lights coming on was sorted with a new instrument cluster - under warranty, of course!

Sarge.

I'm not sure I understand either.

I get all sorts of lights on immediately after turning on the ignition. By the time the glowplug light has gone out most of the others have too.

About a second after the engine has started the others have also gone out.

What you are describing sounds normal to me.

Are you saying now that the lights are staying on for longer?

Apologies. The sequence is as follows:

Key inserted into ignition and turned to the notch to glow the plugs, bring the radio on, show the lights etc.

The lights go out leaving only the engine management light, handbrake and battery. THE ENGINE IS NOT STARTED AT THIS POINT

The key is then turned to start the engine and 70% of the time the lights in the screenshot (traction control, TPS, ABS) light up for around 2 seconds. The Engine management and battery lights stay are out after about 1 second. Strangely, when these lights go out, so does the handbrake light which then comes back on after about 3 seconds.

My normal startup does not show the traction, tps, abs lights during turning over of the engine, nor does the handbrake light go off then on.

I have also checked the battery which has a black dot and shows "good" on a tester. The video is also now live

I'm uploading a video of a normal startup so you can compare the two

All sorted - was traced to a loose wire in the engine bay / fuse compartment. Battery was also changed due to being discharged to a low voltage :)

Early days but I can safely say the car starts much better already. The car will be sat for a few days over Christmas so it will be a good test :)
