Fabia vrs rear brakes still seizing

Featured Replies

I've put the springs on a few months back and recently I've noticed the brakes dragging. It's so stiff it's bent the springs and they have no springiness in them. Does anyone know if they can be serviced? Are they a direct swap for the Octavia vrs rear brakes? Does the handbrake link up the same way?

Any help will be appreciated. I'm fed up of getting under the car every time I put the handbrake on and manually releasing it.

Danny.

Anyone?

Which springs did you use?

Can't remember. I think they are from the Audi a3.

Springs dont work if calliper knackered unfortunately. I had springs on ages but still gets stuck occasionally. Its even been stripped and greased. So looks like for me its either replace or recondition.

Be interested to know is it your driver side?

My drivers side has been sticking on, got new discs, pads and springs to fit. I thought if the winding mechanism on the caliper was free, the brakes shouldn't stick?

New genuine calipers are £106 inc delivery on ebay. Non genuine I have found for £90.

As it happens it is the drivers side. But both were dragging. The spring sorted the near side but the drivers has started playing up again.

It don't get stuck when the foot brake is pressed its just when the handbrake is applied and let off its not releasing.

Does anyone know if the octy vrs rears are a straight swap?

Sounds same as mine. Dont think they are a straight swap ive been looking into it to.

Think there some modification to the plate needed in order to fit them.

Have you checked the handbrake cable is nice and free?

Cant speak for danny, but my cable is fine its when you use hand brake the piston gets stuck in the rear calliper preventing cable from tightening properly and when you look at adjuster in center console you can see its lopsided.

Exactly the same here.

Handbrake cable is free. Goes slack where it splits in the between the seats.

Had exactly this too. Lopsided adjuster, fitted the springs, it was a little better, but still couldn't spin the rear wheels freely (when jacked up, ofcourse) and the alloys were still getting quite warm, so had the calipers replaced. Now they spin for ages and no more heat, strange noises and a nice boost in mpg.

I think this what I'm going to end up doing. But just don't want to fork out for new callipers. Had enough issues with the car as it is.

It seems to have made a difference of about 5mpg since we did them (yeah, they were pretty seized), so its not an entirely one-way money dump :)

Could always do the rear brake upgrade?

Somthing like 266 discs maybe?

I've seen sets on ebay for around £200 with calipers, discs and pads. (Not new tho) Might be worth looking into if your paying £120 for one caliper alone.

Is the 266 upgrade from a octavia vrs, sorry for jumping on your topic it coincidence i asked which rear calipers i could upgrade with in my own topic and everyone just said do front. And missed the statement that its my back one that is broke.
