that chatter doesnt sound right imo either pal

I had the same sound when my egr became disconnected on my golf pd130. Give that a check?

Any other symptoms?

Yikes, doesn't look good the way it shudders when coming off boost.

It's got a egr delete on it and the pipes from the vacuum box as got to 6mm bolts in it which noise did you have mate the squeal or the chatter

I just had the squeal. I thought you may have had an EGR delete, thats all fitted nice and tight?

Right just had a quick look at the car there was a slight leak on the egr pipe from vacuum box fixed that the noise is still there just not as loud. So I checked the intercooler pipes everything seems ok no leaks what I could find. So I took the bottom intercooler pipe off and start the car and revved it and there was no squeal put it back on and squeal again so took the top intercooler pipe and the noise stopped till I put it back on.

Does this mean it could be a leak in a pipe somewhere because if it was turbo squeal it would still make the noise am I right in thinking that

Alternator pulley :) they have a clutch in them that fails.

Sounds like the turbo to me. It doesn't matter which pipe between the turbo and inlet you remove, it means the turbo isn't doing any work and so it isn't making any noise.

It's not the alternator pulley, as that wouldn't cause the engine to produce black smoke.

The only thing is hit still boost to bout 1.5 bar when going just smokes if u try go past 3k and loses power and throws black smoke out if turbo gone it would be white/blue like the last 4 times the turbo went because of a bad map

Doesn't have to be white smoke to be a fault with the turbo, doesn't mean the turbo 'has gone' could be a fault with the compressor wheel.

mine does this right through the rev range from 1500 rpm as the turbo spools up all the way round to 3000 rpm, started as soon as my mate fitted a new turbo on my car. Was told by one person (company escapes me now) it was most likely a gasket on the exhaust side and the turbo probably needs refitting with new gaskets. Every single other person I have spoke to seemed to think the turbo was probably knackered or as above alternator pulley, egr valve, even the air con compressor, oh - bent impeller was another?!?

I did remove the egr, put a new air con compressor on (after it really failed) and rather than refit the turbo my mate replaced the alternator all to no avail.

50 thousand miles later the sound is still there as is the turbo, still pulls fine as well (mine doesn't cut out and produce black smoke though)

Guess the person i spoke to 50k miles ago was right and everyone else was wrong.

Check for soot around the exhaust gasket, I have loads which proves the theory, you may find the answer!

My mate hears me coming, i think he did this on purpose so he can avoid me :(

Can't hear very well on my phone, but I had a squeal after I fitted my egr delete - the gasket on the egr blank on the turbo was dodgy. Replaced that and the squeal went

Is it a BLT engine?

No mate asz engine I have just replaced the inlet gasket and the squeal is only slight now and only lose a bit of boost but there was quite bit of black gunk round the outlet manifold nd the turbo gasket to down pipe is the same so replacing them tomoro and hopefully it will work
