"Mechanical" sun screen for Superb Estate, are they electric and worth the money?

Featured Replies

I am about to order a Superb Elegance Estate -13 (3 years lease contract) and am a but curious about the factory mounted accessory "Sun blinds for rear windows - mechanical".

I've tried with no luck finding any details on youtube/google about these.

1) What do they mean by mechanical, electric or mechanical in the sense that they can be rolled up and down manually?

2) Are they referring to rear passenger windows or rear luggage compartment windows?

3) They will cost me about 110£ to add, are they really worth the extra money? (e.g. I am skipping the spare tire because it will cost me about 41£ which I think is not worth it).

Thanks.

hi they go on the side windows and pull up and down by hand they are very neat and tidy they pull up out of the door but i have never used mine if you had children they would be handy i suppose if you want a picture i will put one on my gallery.i would spend the money on a spare wheel myself.

Ah, thanks! I saw a picture of those on this forum. I guess the only drawback then is they do not cover the entire window. And yes I have a little 1year-old sitting back there so I need either these or some removable ones (which I noticed cover entire window but then youn need somewhere to store them if not wanting them mounted 24/7...

OTOH if I buy portable ones I can reuse them for the next car (if it also is a Skoda)...

For afternmarket ones look at www.vanstyle.co.uk - had them on my previous Octy, excellent product.

If you'll be on a maintainence contract including tyres then skip the spare wheel, but if you'll be paying for tyres yourself then seriously consider it. If you use the can of sealant, then you'll need a brand new tyre. If you use the spare then there's a good chance you can get a repair for £10-15. Plus all the benefits of having a spare: sealant can't save you if the side wall if damaged, it's full size in the Elegance so you're not restricted to 55mph, etc.

As others have commented on other posts, the optional mechanical blinds will be a great toy to break when your 1 year old is a bit bigger. Van Style or Sunniboy are a little tougher.

Thanks for the replies. And thanks artichoke273 for input about the spare tire. I need to at least check what the maintenance contract says about tire replacements in those scenarios, and as you say might be a good investment anyhow.

p.s.

Regarding the factory mounted blinds I saw a pic attached here

http://www.briskoda....s/#entry1932958 (seems to be the hatch version?), and from a member "briskodian" here: http://www.briskoda....l/#entry2087834

And some nice detailed pics of the mesh with aftermarket Vanstyle/Sunniboy here: http://www.briskoda....s/#entry2486976

I got the Vanstyle screens in my combi and they are great. They are not very good, now that the winter is here as they don't cause the windows to mist up exactly, but they do seem to stop them clearing. I guess they restrict airflow. It's not a problem, as I prefer not to have them in place during the winter, as they make reversing in the dark a bit of a hazard, come summer though and they will take 2 mins to install again.
