Can anyone help.

Featured Replies

Hello to all,

I'm new to Skoda cars, but proud to be the owner of a 2009 black Superb 170CR 2.0TDI elegance model...

...however only had the car two weeks and found a couple of faults with it already and wondered if anyone has already had those problems and resolved them?

1) Memory seat won't accept new positions unless the seat back is all the way forward ( I know manual says won't accept anything more than 102*), but face against steering wheel is a bit extreme :-)

and..

2) Columbus head unit, which was working, has now decided to go into a perpetual resetting state, it displays the "welcome to Skoda", and then resets itself (does this need reformatting due to a dud HDD or memory cluster? )

Been to a local garage and put it on a Bosch diagnostic machine with no fault codes found. Going up to Skoda garage next week but when I spoke to the mechanic on the phone, he seemed to have no clue :-(

Many thanks if anyone can help me out

Hi there

You've had the car a couple of weeks. Was it sold as a retail car from a dealer? If so, I would be looking for them to get these things fixed. However, you may have purchased it from a private seller, or at auction, in which case you will need to sort things out yourself.

As Bill has said, neither of the issues are in the 'never heard of that before' category. They are both known about, and a good search of this forum will let you know how folks got them resolved.

Remember seats are now an MoT item. You need to be able to move the seat back and forward. It may be that you can do this, and your problem is simply with storing the new positions in memory?

Either way, I hope you get these things sorted, and go on to really enjoy your Superb ownership. My Superb is at the opposite end of the scale from yours - a 1.4 petrol in 'S' trim. Jealous of all the goodies, but relieved I have less to go wrong!

Your Columbus needs a master disc putting in it.

Your dealer will help you with this. It is the SWL Disc and takes around 50 minutes. YOUR COLUMBUS IS NOT BROKEN. This happened to me two weeks ago and was fixed very easily at the dealer.

In fact try pressing cd eject + mic+ setup buttons (3 buttons)all together and the unit will ask for the SWL DISC???

The seats sound like they need an update. Plenty of posts on here.

Hello, thanks for the replies.

Bought retail in Southampton but live in north Wales. The trader I bought it from gave a 3 month warranty but its got a claim limit of £500.

Been to a local garage whose equipment couldn't diagnose the fault- they very kindly did not charge me. The trader I bought the car from is paying for an hours labour at Mitchell Skoda for me, as its 200 miles each way for me to go back to Southampton.

Just hoping the issues can be resolved without me being out of pocket.

Just seen your reply, thank you for that too, have given that a try and it does indeed ask for the disk. Do you know if you can only get the swl disk from the dealer?

The dealer has the disc. It takes 50minutes to do. It basically re installs all the programs on your Columbus.

Very common problem.

If you get hold of a disk with recent firmware (say, 4020 - available from selected parts of the interweb) it will fix your Columbus. I had this problem recently and the SWL disc alone (also available via Google) did not fix it. I just re-installed the firmware (which also contains the SWL software) and everything is now fine. At least for now. Don't listen to people who say you can't jump straight from early firmware to 4020: I am the living proof that you can do it; my car is also 2009. PM me if you would like assistance.

As for the seats, I'm having that problem as well; I took it the dealer, having heard about a software upgrade. They told me that there are no outstanding software upgrades for my car, so I just put up with it (I'm the only person who ever drives the car).
