Mug Of Tea!!!

Featured Replies

put furbs in for mot today 5 years old 70k on the clock not one thing it didnt pass!!! yay :D

good going, don't think my nova would have passed if it had lived long enough

and so it should at 5 years old. My 20 year old cavalier who's mileage clock had gone back to zero and beyond passed with flying colours EVERYTIME I had the M.O.T

out of interest, why call the thread Mug of Tea??

cos its what MOT stands for :D

 I was wondering as well!

Steve

Seen plenty of Fabias fail MOT at five years.

ARB's are favourite although strictly speaking not a failure, obvious things like tyres (some people just dont check em) and even windscreen washers and wipers..lol.

mug of tea!!! i dunno i thought it was random and when does the belt have to be changed just out of curiosity?

Cambelt?

60k, and change both belts (1.4 16v has two cambelts) and both tensioners.

really!! its done 70 without a change!!!

Im dreading that service. Currently done bout 55k. Roughly how much am I looking for that to be done (hours labour, b****red if Im going to a dealer for it, Im out of warranty anyway).

Do you mean it has two cambelts, or one cambelt and a secondary drive belt? (non toothed belt)

isnt one to drive the elctrics and all the other bits and one for main engine?

It has two cambelts both toothed.

The main belt runs up fromt he crank driving the water pump and upto a gear on the inlet cam. Then there is another shorter belt driving the exhuast cam from that. The tensioners are prone to failure, VW had a recall on them a while back.

Get them changed!

I think it's great when you can get failed for poor wipers, but yet 'technically' you don't need to even have a windscreen

Oh and advice to everyone is take your spare wheel out, they normally go flat sat in the boot or mouldy if not used for some years. But if it's not there, it doesn't get tested.

But if it's not there, it doesn't get tested.

As mentioned on another thread somewhere thats a myth, it doesnt get tested anyway regardless.

Yes the engine go boom if your cambelt breaks on a 16v.

A simple diagram to show you layout of the 1.4 16v, done from memory so may not be 100%..lol

Thanks for the warning. Will make sure I get the tensioners done at the same time as the cambelts. How long do you reckon it will take? (Labour time)

IIRC its around 3 hours.

My Fabia failed its 5 year MOT! The rear indicator bulb wasn't orange enough  and the driver's seat was apparently loose on its runners! Still it should fly through next years ;)

Chris

engine go bang?

Aye. Valves hit pistons = very big bill :thumbdwn:
