Which used Octy should I buy...

Featured Replies

I'm useless at making decisions...

Doing 20,000- 25,000 miles a year. Current Octy Hatch is knackerd. Having flirted with a Fabia it's just a smidge small.

Considering a used Greenline 2, there are a couple of year old ones about for £11.5K (12,000 miles) but none are local to me. Otherwise just round the corner is a 3.5 year old 1.9 Proper Diesel elegance trim for £9.5 (40,000 miles serviced bang on every 10K) .

Or in the "bargain" bucket. An 09 1.9 PD Octy with 75,000 on the clock for £7,500. (lot of miles, slightly confused service history)

Reckon on the g-line being £600 a year cheaper in fuel plus cheaper tax and maybe a few quid off the insurance.

Anyone want to make a decision for me?

Wow since you have asked for someone else to make the decision I would personally go for the 40K 1.9. The GL2 has been a temptation of mine for a long time now and I recently read a thread on here that really put me off, if you go to see a greenline II make sure you get a good long test drive on various thought out road types and make sure its getting good MPG close to its acclaimed some people are seeing very low figures. Driving it in the way it must be to achieve the high results may not be worth it or suit you. The 1.9TDi is a great engine and gets good MPG as is Elegance spec is comfy and in my opinion the best spec to choose in an Octavia for value for money.

I've got a mate who has a superb greenline and he's really happy with his- especially the fuel consumption so given your milage that seems a logical choice. Just to put a spanner in the works you could see what you can get a new one for as with the VAT off offer they work out at circ 14k new and depending on what finance is available you could get another 500 quid off and free servicing, so that's another option worth considering, but you'd need to go and see a dealer to see what sort of deal you could get and what's available. I'd avoid the high milage 1.9pd as it'd be a bit of a gamble and even if it's ok with the milage you do you'll be in the same position again in a couple of years time. good luck and welcome to the forum. As Fubar says the other 1.9 seems a good option too and a good test drive should help you decide

Here is the thread I referred to above on Greenline II. It does highlight some owners experiences and comparisons between it and the 1.9. As I said I would definately want a long test drive to be sure you can get the car to give the big MPG read outs, by your fuelly figure in signature you should be easily capable of doing so but if one doesn't return good MPG its easy for a dealers to just say you must not be driving it right (can be true but if it wasn't what could you do?) That is my one and only fear about getting one to the point I would personally only buy one second hand so I can drive the actual car I will end up with first.

I,d go for the 1.9 40K. Can't go wrong with that one and a nice spec car. Shame the 75K 1.9 has a patchy service history otherwise that would have been worth it.

I would think no DPF (financial time bomb) on the 1.9TDi also which is an attractive thing to me :D They are filters and will need replaced at some point out of warranty and around £1500 SOD THAT!
