VRS Turbo "wooosh" sound

Featured Replies

haha total noob. My first time of having a turbo/supercharged car.

My question is, can I get a differnet sound for the turbo so instead of a 'woosh' it flutters?

The flutter noise is usaly caused by running a dump valve with a very tight spring meening all the pressure isnt realesed and some travels backwards spinning the blades of the turbo in reverse......not very healthy i would belive

There could be other ways to make the noise happen but thats the most common way iv heard

ooooh dont think i want to bugger it up just for a sound, is there any other ways?

A completely DIY way would be to T-piece off past the intercooler and add a dump valve I guess?

Forge make a spacer for the diverter valve which makes the normal woosh noise when you let off the power even louder. They also make a new diverter valve which does the same thing, but in a single unit.

An induction kit will also give you a whoosh noise.

You don't want turbo flutter, definitely not good for the turbo.

But it sounds so cool. Rally car sounds! Braaaaahhhh woshwoshwoshwoshs pop pop pop pop braaaaaap braaaaappppppp bbbrrraaaaaaaaaaaapp

Rally cars sound like that because they don't have dump/blow off valves. They're not concerned about the turbo stall (flutter, pigeon cooing noise) because they can afford to replace/rebuild the turbo as and when.

I think you'll find its due to anti lag systems that cause the Turbo to be on boost all the time so when not using the boost the dump valve is continually opening and closing so no overboost occurs.

Nope, because you then need to start playing "doof doof" music with all of your windows down and wear a baseball cap backwards... :giggle:

So in short, NO is the answer without screwing things up?

Although Im not sure, due to my mate having the flutter on his Seirra Cosworth.

I didnt mate because that's just making it (original) louder. Probably just settle for that. :(
