Looking to upgrade the speaker on our MK1 Octavia, had a few questions...

Anyone know the speaker dimensions? And max depth speaker that can be fitted? Do I need a spacer/mounting bracket of some sort?

Hi there

I've just changed my front and rear speakers on my vRS estate.

Regarding the rears you'll need:

13cm for a hatchback Octy

6x4" for the estate Octy ( 4x screws to remove the entire side shelf - I can guide you if you have an estate as I took pics!)

Fronts are 16.5-17cm. Now this isn't as straight forward as removing the old and fitting the new! I bought infinitys which were mere millimeters deeper than OEM, HOWEVER it's the diameter of the speaker magnet that plays a pivotal role. Behind the foam seal you'll feel part of the inner door skin jutt out into the speaker space. This is an overhang from the lower fixing for the window runner. Depending on how you feel about bending/modifying the inner skin you can easily fit much deeper speakers. So what you do is open up the lowest part of the foam cover so you can see the metal jutting out, and what I did was bend it toward me to 90 degrees. Once I did that the infinitys slotted in a treat, no need for spacers or owt. Bear in mind to cause as little damage to the foam cover though as these act as a water guard amongst others.

They're all tweeters. Two types of speaker you can buy - coaxials - three or four way speakers with their own tweeters in the centre of the cone and components which are whats fitted as standard to the Octavias.

You have two options, well three. Install component speakers and wire in either the existing or new tweeters. Install coaxials and either wire in the the tweeters (effectively running two sets of tweeters per corner) or leave them in situ but not plugged in.

if you are keeping stock speakers in, then disconnect the rears for better sound in the rear! it does work!
