Hi everyone newbie octavia vrs tdi 2007

sidelights have stopped working changed them for new still not working any ideas ?

I have checked the fuses help ?

Are all side lights not working, fronts and rears?

Is the light coming on on the switch?

Do you live near anyone that can run a VCDS scan, as this will show up any errors

front lights dipped/full beam work fine rears working also

sidelights not working totally miffed ?

Yeah but are all sidelights not working, as in when you set switch to sidelights do the rear ones come on?

Is it just the fronts that are not working?

just the front sidelights not working

If you've swaped the bulbs and checked the fuse then it's got to be a wiring/earth problem.

Time for an auto-electrician I think...

thanks for your help i will look into this tomorrow ...

Just a stupid idea, but you haven't put LEDs in have you?

Just they have to be canbus friendly, and also you have to have the polarity right.

If you have and they are canbus ones, take them out and turn them 180' and put them back in.

Also is the light coming up on the dash to say you have bulbs out?

yes i did have smd leds in for three months they worked fine but were 60-40s and have overheated due to bad design.

passengers side went then drivers side the following day,

no damage to bulb holders wiring not damaged just leds unit discoloured from overheating.

I have put the old glass bulbs back in and nothing the lamp out waning on dash has been on ever since .

I am gonna get another set of lamps just to prove the circuits out ?? but still a bit miffed as i am sure the originals are fine ?

A bad time for this to this problem as my car m.o.t due Arrghhh!!

There may not be any visual damage to the bulb holders or the wires but if the LED's have overheated and stopped working, and now the normal bulbs won't work either then I think you have at least found the cause of the issue.

The Octavia has a system whereby it monitors the level of resistance in the lighting circuits, when the resistance changes it knows that that a bulb has failed - hence the in-dash warning.

I wonder if disconnecting the battery might reset it? Be warned though disconnecting the battery can sometimes cause more issues than it cures.

its worth a go my car is just sitting doing nowt at the moment ...

Try removing both sidelight bulbs and turning the lights on and off and then refitting the standard bulbs. Also try the indicators, as when I had an issue with LED sidelights using the indicators would kick them back in to life.
