Featured Replies

IS it possible to download a free malware program off download.com to a usb dongle thingy, then transfair it to another computer?

yes, you have to change the destination where files are downloaded to but it's easier to just copy/ paste it from the computer to the USB memory stick

I'd recommend Malwarebytes. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Cheers for that. I have that police ransom virus on my lap top that's blocked it and someone recommended this was of gettin it off. So ill download it to computer, then copy and paste to stick. Easy as that yeah?

If that's the situation you're in, you may need an offline virus cleaner, preferably that doesn't need to run directly in Windows - as the virus/trojan will be active. With your USB idea you're only one stage further along the line really.

A suggestion would be Microsoft Defender Offline which I've had success with in the past. There will be others available as well, I'm sure:

Ah right, thanks for that. I'll still be able to put that to usb?

Easiest way is just to burn it to a CD, then get the computer to boot from the disc.

You can also use a USB stick, but you would have to prepare the drive to boot from first.

Just removed this from a work colleagues computer. I used the Kaspersky Rescue Disc V10 which can be had from here: http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208282173

This can be burnt to bootable disc (method which I used) or alternatively to USB.

Once I could then boot into Windows I used Malwarebytes Antimalware to clear up the rest of the malware.

Instructions are all in the link I provided but if you need any help feel free to ask.

P.S is that free or will I have to pay for it?

Kasperky Rescue Disc v10 is a free download mate. It is an ISO file. Once dowloaded use your CD/DVD burning software to "burn" the ISO to a disc.

Reboot computer with disc in drive and allow the computer to boot from disc. When booted into the Rescue program it will ask to update the definitions. This can take some time. Once the Kaspersky program has completed, from memory, I think the computer will reboot. All going well you should now be able to log in to Windows. Now download Malwarebytes Antimalware, free edition will be fine, and run a complete scan! At the end of the scan any remaining virus's or files will show in red. Tick these to quarantine them, reboot and scan again with Malwarebytes. Keep doing this procedure until nothing is found.

Hope this helps.

great info there guys thanks a lot. I'll do it Wednesday when im off work

I had the same - boot in safe mode then system restore to before it happened, you should be able to boot normally after that. Then you can download malware removers to get rid properly.

Go for graphic - it'll make it look prettier! Text is just that - no user friendly bits at all.
