Hi from a newbie

Hi All. I currently own a 2006 Saab 9-3 150 Tid Sportwagon, but tomorrow am taking a 2008 Octavia TDi DSG Hatch out for a test drive, and will probably purchase it.

I have been thinking of changing the Saab for a little while now, but the decision has been hastened by the development of my severely arthritic left ankle to a stage where I can now hardly operate the clutch without taking a long while after exiting the car before I can walk properly. So an auto it has to be, and with the Saab situation regading parts getting a bit iffy (NOT service bits which are very easy to come by) I decided to give Skoda a go.

Our local indie that looks after the MOTs on the family cars is also a VAG ace outfit and natch I am going for one of the range available.

The one we are looking at is a nice example of a Laurin & Klement with all the lovely toys and only 41k miles. The two owners include the first a Skoda manager for 6 months (they do that a lot to keep the reg numbers up a bit like a lot of marques) It is spotless in Metallic Black and for our needs could tick all the boxes.

I live in Kennington, Oxford, am 76 yrs young and a caravan enthusiast (I have to say a fairly quick one - you may find me at the back of a queue, not the front - lol)

I have previously owned a Skoda - an Octavia! Bought it nearly new while in Cyprus in 1963. A brilliant VERY sturdy car with extremely durable paint. Will try to dig out a pic some time to scan.

A brief chack of the forum shows it to be quite busy and very informative.

Best Regards to all.

Pete

Thanks all for the comments - looks good for our needs. However, the gods have decided that we can't test drive the car today due to a rather large presence of - erm - water around. We cannot get our of our village to get to the dealer; they are currently moving all the cars to safety as the water is now lapping over the pavement. Gggrrr. The sales exec will call us when the waters subside. This is making me want it more and more.

BTW - great forum.

Pete

All the best with rising water level
