Superb Estate 2.0TDi CR Elegance 5Dr DSG 1 Year Old Review

Featured Replies

I have now had the car nearly 1 year and done 20,000 miles, so I thought it right to give some feedback. The Superb is a great car and the Elegance has many standard features. Overall, I am very pleased although I have had a couple of problems. Firstly, the adaptive headlamps failed in the first week, but the dealer sorted them out the next day. Secondly, the car progressively started to pull to the left. Again, the dealer looked at this for me on several occasions. Whilst I wouldn’t say that it was perfect, it is acceptable. I do a lot of motorway driving and this is where I notice it most. Thirdly, my KESSY system has stopped working today. Hopefully, the dealer will sort it. Overall, I am very pleased and have recommended it to friends and colleagues. I ordered many additional options which I comment on below. The one that I should have gone for is the Hill Hold Control. I like to have the left armrest extended and this makes it difficult to use the handbrake.

Options:-

Rosso Brunello Metallic paint

Ventilated front seats – they work very well. There are two settings and off. The switch is on the front of the seat where you can’t see it, so you have to grope around and don’t know whether or not is on or off. Nevertheless, I would recommend.

Wood décor – I like it with the ivory interior, many don’t. It seems to be a bit like Marmite.

Front and rear parking sensors – great. I wouldn’t be with out them. However, I wish they were on permanently like they were in my Lexus. Every time I park I have to switch the button on. Annoying, but I have got used to it. I would recommend.

Spare wheel – unfortunately, I had to test it and was glad that I had a spare and not an inflation kit. Many recovery services are invalid if you have a puncture and no spare. Be aware!

Floor mats – cheap quality, but a cheap price.

Heated washer nozzles – not really had the weather to experience them.

Heated windscreen – great. It clears frost in about a minute. The lines are noticeable if you look for them and occasionally in bright sunlight when the screen is wet. However, you very quickly get used to them and I hardly ever notice it now. I would recommend.

Auto dimming rear view mirror – works well. I would recommend.

Keyless entry and start – great. I wish that the lights came on from a greater distance. I would recommend.

3 spoke wheel and flappy paddles – the wheel looks nice. I have only used the paddles a couple of times. I should have saved the money.

Heated rear seats – great. The kids love them. I would recommend.

Upgraded sound system – great. I would recommend.

Ivory with black carpets – love it.

Boot liner – great. I would recommend.

Thanks to all the people on here who helped me decide.

A nice set of extras, I have the 3 spoke wheel in mine and use the paddles quite a lot, mainly for engine braking on a downhill slope, different driving styles perhaps!

According to the owners manual, the seat fans are two speed. Up for low, down for high and centre for off. Is this not the case?

Whilst the Superb is a decant bit of engineering for the price you can see certain areas that let it down compared to presteige brands. My BMW plush Axminster carpets with matching matts. Some of the interior plastics. The sound of the electric windows. The BMW were near silent. Just little things that all add to make a better overall experience.

Yes and of course you pays your money and takes your choice :D

think i would rather spend the extra £10,000 you have to pay for a bmw on a few holidays.and still have a better car

Nice report...thank you.

One question...I too have KESSY, but dont understand what you mean about the lights coming on from a greater distance?

Regards.

Mike.

Presumably when it unlocks as you walk towards it, think he would prefer it if the car sensed him sooner?

My Estate is also 12 month old, 30k miles - no real issues to talk of, paint on rear bumper sorted under warranty.

I bet as size wise it would be a 5 series that the figure would be over £15K if not nearer to £20K bearing in mind vat free and o% free. My L&K was not even £24K with 5 year warrenty and another grand plus of extras on top. So yes I would keep the money and I am very happy with the car.

Kessy doesn't unlock as you walk towards it. It either unlocks when you press the button (like all cars do) or when you touch the door handle. I like the Kessy, but not sure I'd bother again, as it doesn't give me that much benefit.

I have had my Combi 170DSG elegance for 2 years this week and clocked up 80,000 miles in that timeand had to have its first warranty repair this week ( supplimentry coolant pump replaced). Got to agree with you on the wood trim with ivory, will probaly go for the vented seats next time as they weren't an option when I brought this one.

Have done several 500+ miles in a day trips in it and its proved it self to be a good motorway cruiser.
