How do I remove the passenger air vent?

Featured Replies

Question is in the title.

For the past few weeks there has been a slight rattling noise coming from what I thought was the glove box but when I took it out and left it in the boot the rattle was still there. My brother noticed the rattle today and found it was coming from the passenger air vent and it stopped when he pressed his hand against it. When I had a closer look I can see that the vent doesn't sit flush with the dash with the left hand side slightly recessed while the right side is flush.

I've had a good search around and I cant find a guide to removing the whole passenger air vent. I want to take it out and see if theres any loose parts etc and try and refit it.

Thanks

Sean :)

Just prise it out mate, I used my debit card :)

Okay, I went to the garage and prised it out. Looks like its been out before as some of the plastic catches are bent. I also notice that the main unit isnt sitting head one, slightly recessed more the left. how would I go about removing that so i can hopefully bend it back?

*bump* Does anyone know how to remove the full unit?

So I grew some balls and managed to get the whole unit out. For future ref:

1) used old loyality cards to pry off the front cover.

2) removed horizontal slats

3) used cards and flat scredriver to hold down the top clips.

4) Pull slightly at the top to allow the clips to unlock.

5)slot cards in the bottom to unlock the bottom clips.

6) I used some point nosed pliers and gave a good pull. It took some force then it came out.

I had to bent back the bottom clips but it all seemed to assemble back easily enough.

Well reassembling the air vent unit didn't help get rid of the rattle, if anything it made it worse. I'm thinking its the metal clips that hold it in the car, they were quite loose when on the unit. Do you think its possible to buy the clips separately or is it a case of needing a whole new unit?

I do sure spend too much time faffing about with this rattling lark but yes it was the clips that hold the vent in place. Replaced the clips with some velcro dots and the rattle has gone. Huzzah!

Nice, mine rattles and I bet thats what it is. Good to know.

Thanks Sean - a good useful story.
