Misfire Cylinder 1

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

My vRS is back causing me grief again and I need your help to diagnose... Over the last few weeks the car had been "Kicking" for a split second now and again while accelerating, the yesterday I was driving down the motor way and the engine light started actually flashing on the dash... I notice a loss of power especially when under 2k revs.

The fault code indicates its Cylinder 1 misfire...

From what ive managed to google 2 possible things are broken spark plug or coilpack?

Which is the best starting point in diasnosis and how easy are they to change?

The car is a 2001 Octavia vRS AUQ engine.

Any help is much appreciated.

Take plugs out and compaire them, then swop no1 plug with no2 and coil pack no1 with coilpack no3,

erase codes and run engine for abit then read fault codes again and see if misfire moves cylinders

Oh and has it had coilpack recall done by skoda

Sounds exactly like a coilpack failure, follow the above ;)

Thanks Guys,

I dont know if it has had a recall done on it, I wasnt original owner, it was bought in the UK originally I bought it here in Ireland and am the 3rd owner. Can I ring a dealer and check? If I can get a freebie it would be sweet otherwise ill just have to go do it myself.

If I have to it myself are there any guides on how to swop them out? What tools would I need etc?

Thanks for all the help.

Yes first port of call would be to call your dealer and query (they will ask for the reg). There is a coilpack recall. Believe they will only swap out affected VAG only coilpacks though, not any pattern parts which may have been fitted.

The reference to quote to dealers if necessary is Ignition Coil Campaign No: 28 F7 (Issued March 28th).

Thanks Folks!

Just rang the dealers and they confirmed there is a campaign out on my car! Here's hoping nobody else changed anything since it was bought now!

I feel like someone is looking out for me if I can get this done for free!
