Yet another Good Bye to a Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Well its now a few days since I said goodbye to my VRS, It was sad to see it go but after nearly six years and 57K it was time for a new car. I have looked at many cars and even considered the Rapid but I eventually bought a fully loaded BMW 125D M Sport. Its very, very different in lots of ways - rear wheel drive, 8 speed sport auto, i-drive etc.

I really liked owning a VRS despite various niggles during its time with me but with the help and guidance from this forum in sorting these out it does show that Briskoda is by far the best car forum on the web.

Many thanks to all of you for a great daily read, far better than any car mag. Keep up the good work and you never know I may return from the dark side one day!

Congrats on new car you big traitor :p You'd can still get your daily read don't have to leave Briski too. Either way good luck.

Enjoy the car...and the snow

Sounds nice, enjoy. But as Fubar says more than welcome to stick around.....I ain't got a skoda anymore.

I made the move the other way - 120i BMW to vRS Octavia! The BMW is a nice car but proved to be too small for what we needed in the end. They do feel a very quality car though (mine had the sports suspension and 18" wheels, with the runflat tyres the ride was a little harsh for my taste!). Enjoy!

All the best with your new beemer. let us know how you get on with it, I for 1 wouod be interested to know what you think

cheers

Ah Captain S.... shouldn't you come clean?

6 years and 60,000 miles, several niggles and only 29 posts!

Must have been quick fixes :giggle:

It must be embarassing as his profile still says 'Skoda'!

I ain't got a skoda anymore.

:p

Enjoy the car...and the snow

When it snows and sticks its out with the MK1 feet shod with Dunlop Utilities. The VRS was not too good in snow with the original fit Continental tyres but a change to Uniroyal Rainsports improved this no end. Time will tell with the BMW as it runs Pirelli P Zero's 245/45 18's on the rear running at 40psi!?! I still have a Skoda link as my son still has my first Octavia - a 1998 1.9 TDi SLX.

The 125 seems nice - automatically ruled out for me due to size and practicality, but I'd happily have one if we were a two car family (then again if we had to become a two car family at the moment I think I might be scouring autotrader for F-reg metros..... :()

8 speed auto = very nice. 125d engine = very nice. M-sport + runflats = not so nice.

Sounds a cracking car and that engine gearbox combo is a winner. I have no doubt you will love it as they are superb cars. I just could never live with the m-sport ride on run flats ever again though. My VRS feels like a limo in comparison.

Other than this i cant fault any BMW. Havent read much about this new 25d engine so will be interested on a review of it if you dont mind once you have got used to it. No-one does diesel engines as good as BMW IMO.

If i ever went for a new BMW in the future i would definately tick the "no cost option" box next to delete m-sport suspension as i like the styling of the m-sport but would prefer the ride of an SE.

Enjoy your car mate just dont read too many threads on here as BMW drivers dont seem popular for some reason. Jealousy i suspect.
