Featured Replies

hey all, ive found out my compression tester so id like to health check the car over, ive had a look for a guide but cant find one.

does anyone know what the figures should be around? also how do you stop spark? my old mr2 i used to pull the fuse that stops the coil pack from working..

cheers :)

Remove all the coil packs, remove 1st spark plug screw the compression tester in & turn the engine over with the throttle pedal fully down. Note the figures replace the plug & move on to the next plug, & so on.

so i dnt need to stop the spark incase of arching? any ideas what the figures should be around? cheers :)

Hi matey. According to Haynes, the minimum compression should be approx 7 BAR (101.53 PSI) with a max difference between cylinders of approx 3 BAR (43.52 PSI) and a compression ratio of 9.5:1.

Hope this helps

Disconnect injectors else it will flood engine and wash bores of oil and give you a false reading

brill cheers guys :D

Disconnect the injectors and remove all the spark plugs. Leaving the plugs in will just slow the engine cranking.
