VRS Oil? Recommendations For Best Value For Money? TIMING BELT KIT QUESTION?

Featured Replies

Hiya All

Looking to give my 2005 05 Skoda Fabia vRS a oil change in couple days?

Where would you say is the best value for money for oil?

Is it dealers with Quantum or has anyone found any other recent bargains lately for good quality stuff!

Also on this note just recently bought this vRS and the guy I bought the car off didnt have it long and didnt know if the timing belt had been changed and no reciepts or notes in service book if its been done?

Is there anyway to check to see if its been done visually, cars on 75K and a 2005 05 Model?

Thanks For All Your Help!!

If you look in the Euro Car Parts sub forum there are some offer codes which make their oil good value.

I asked my local dealer to look up my car on their system, if your's was serviced there it would be on the computer. Sounds like it hasn't been done as 75k is the time to do it and the last owner would remember the expense!

TPS for the oil, get the belt done as per the manual but note it's age or mileage, whatever it hits first. It may not be cheap but it's cheaper than the alternative.

Thanks guys, oil change done.. Think I will get the timing belt done too as for reassurance..

How long does it roughly take on these models to do a timing belt replacement? Also is it advisable to change water pump toto? Any complications or has anyone got any hints and tips for a newbie?

Thanks All

Hints and tips? - are you wanting to do the timing belt yourself?

And yes, the water pump usually gets changed at the same time.

That's correct Hutchy, looking to do it soon.

Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Hmm. You got a timing kit to lock the engine?

Just make sure you turn the engine over by hand first to check clearance.

Just in case you are interested the parts and labour costs from Skoda for Cambelt + Tensioner + Waterpump are:

(All of these need to have 20% Vat added)

Parts:

Repair Kit £160.40

Water Pump £37.33

Labour £124.19

I dont know what the cost per hour is though but if someone knows this you can work out how long it took!

Skoda sell oil cheaper than anywhere!

I blagged 5l of quantum and oil filter for £22.50!

The longlife 3 skoda sell is just rebranded castrol edge (good oil)

Seems your sorted now anyways! Better putting in the longlife stuff and changing it every 10k to preserve cam wear
