Spare Wheel query

Featured Replies

Hi

My Elegance came with a can of shaving foam and an electric pump rather than a spare wheel. I noticed there is a Superb spare wheel kit for about £85 but does anyone know what comes with it, jack, wheel, type, plastic molded bit it sits in etc. as I would rather have the security of a wheel especially as I will drive in Europe next year for a couple of weeks.

thanks

Martin

PS - have now read the manual cover to cover but will have forgotten what half of it does by tomorrow :notme:

Hi Martin,

If you take the spare wheel option, assuming it hasn't changed in the last 2 years, you get a steel wheel (16" I think) rated to 50mph, with Continental tyre fitted, a recessed storage bay beneath the load floor, giant plastic nut & screw assembly to hold it in place and a small scissor jack and wheel wrench held in an expanded polystyrene 'lid' which sits on top of the spare wheel. There is a strap to secure all of this in place too.

Just a note Martin, but the spare wheel is £85 from factory. As you now have the car this would need to be dealer ordered, price IIRC is around £130, there or thereabouts. Hope that helps.

Don't read the manual, go for a long drive and press buttons - enjoy.

You are right - still £130 is not a bad alternative to a tube of gue

Well, here's just the wheel, if that helps?

Hi Ray

Thanks for that but I need to get all the other bits that go with it (giant plastic nut & screw assembly to hold it in place and a small scissor jack and wheel wrench held in an expanded polystyrene 'lid' which sits on top of the spare wheel. There is a strap to secure all of this in place too) otherwise I would be interested.

thanks

Hi Martin

I think this is what you are after...

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item589281e94f

My car came 10 months old direct from Skoda UK, with a full-size spare, jack and tool kit. They obviously specify them when the car is being first used by themselves!

I bought mine from a main dealer in April (2009 vintage) and added mats and spare wheel, both were priced as an 'accessory' as per brochure, £85 16" steel, 50mph max and as described correctly above.

They kept the foam etc so content will deal but would be happier with full size 18" alloy and tyre so am on the look out.

A full 18 inch spare wheel lift the boot mat/carpet as it is 225 deep as opposed to 205 for the factory spare

Yes I know thanks, I took a wheel off to test when I was contemplating buying 4 Themistos with tyres off eBay. I would live with the slight lift after wedging the floor slightly. For continental caravan towing I want a true full size spare. Soz for the off topic deviation folks.

Yes - there is a couple on ebay like that but if I add on the postage charge it would be cheaper to get it from my local dealer

Sorry just realised that was free postage - a saving of £1.01 from main dealer price. I will probably wait until nearer my trip to France and get it then.
