(Octavia 2011) Stop/Start starting engine just after 3 - 5 seconds after stopping

Featured Replies

I've have problem with stop/start with Skoda Octavia, bought in Fall 2011. Stop/start was working perfectly until Spring 2012 (~10k km). The problem is not that stop/start wouldn't activate, instead the car starts the engine only in 3 to 5 seconds after stopping, for no obvious reasons. After that it would not stop automatically for some time.

I've had the car for repairs three times now, and they still haven't figured out the reason. They did find out that it would work fine if the brake pedal was not moved during stop period, and that there is some problem with the brake pedal signals but were unable to fix it (even with the help from the factory). However this is quite a problem as not pressing brakes while stopping at the lights is seldom possible...

This latest time they did some comparison between my car and a working Octavia, and they seemed to be identical -- however it might be the cold weather here in Finland that prevents stop/start from working properly (it's minus -5 degrees Celcius currently).

I've already learnt NOT to use stop/start as it's completely useless for me :(

Has anyone had the same problem?

There a very many different circumstances that prevent the stop/start system from operating (low battery, a drop in cabin temeprature etc.).

It sounds to me that if the engine is stopping, but then starting up again very soon afterwards then one of the inputs/sensors that tells the car it needs to start the engine again isn't working correctly.

If the garage is having trouble identifying the issue then I'm assuming that there is no fault code being logged.

This sounds like it could be a tough one to diagnose.
