a bit puzzled about my fabia lights

Featured Replies

hi guys can someone give me advice on setting the lights on my 2011 fab 1.2 tsi i have figured out that each light unit has 2 hex adjustment screws one at the top of the unit which moves the beam up or down and another hex screw at the bottom of the unit which moves the projector lens in and out, its this one that i cant figure out what the in and out movement actually does or were it should be set to.??? :wall:

Do you have a dial in the cockpit to adjust the head lamp level? This is used to adjust beam angle if you are carrying a load, pushing the rear down, making your beam aim too high. If you can answer 'No', then they would be IMHO, manual adjusters, and should not be touched unless necessary. ie if you have a very full load or are towing

thanks ljp01. i have the dial in cab but imho i dont think the lower adjusters on the light unit are for load setting but i cud be wrong..

The height adjuster on the headlamp and the load adjuster inside move the beam up and down, which should be within the horizontal red lines on the above diagram (0.5 to 2%).

The other adjuster on the headlamp adjusts where the flat part of the beam kicks up to the left, which should be between the 0 & 2% vertical lines on the diagram.

This is why you need a beam setter correctly positioned on the centre of the lamp and the correct distance away from the lamp and paralell to the car to verify the headlamp aim.

Take it to MOT station they will set your lights correctly.

Use you height adjuster when out at night to suit your personal needs.

cheers lads thats all good info..

I think the fall on the front dipped beam should be 1%. To do this yourself you need to park 10m from a wall (facing it obviously.) Then measure height of headlamps and then height of beam pattern on wall. Wall pattern should be 10cm lower than headlight height (1% of 10m.) Make sure that the headlight dial inside the car is set to its maximum first.

thanks i will try this at the weekend.

To save some confusion, the lens itself may look like it's moving in and out, but there's actually a pivot point on the other end of the cluster, around which the projectors/reflectors move. This movement around that pivot point is what moves the beam left and right, so that you can adjust the kick-up point correctly.
