Think my engine is b0rked...

Featured Replies

I get a "lovely" rattling sound above 6k revs (mostly 2nd/3rd). Only noticed it the other day... any ideas what could be causing it?

I sense my dealer may need to take the patient in for some surgery, but would like some idea of the problem before I have to cough up for something I suspect will be a bit costly...!

So, anyone care to offer a diagnosis, based on my in-depth description?

IIRC 1.4 16v yes?

You allready had the cambelts and tensioners changed aswell due to a previous failure correct?

Just trying to remember from our last chat.

One of the tensioners went last may, yes.... 1.4 16v engine...

The rattle isn't too loud, but you know it doesn't sound good when you hear it!

Do you think it could be pinking? Or Detonation?

Have had a few cam sensors and crank sensors go screwy and knock out the timing before now.

Maybe the CAT is breaking up?

When the tensioner went last year, there was almost a constant noise, as if some small stones where flying around inside the engine.

This is a bit similar but not as loud, and limited to high revs... It's a metalic sound, with no noticeable change in power when it happens...
