Lower Arm Bushes

Featured Replies

I had my two front tyres changed last Thursday.

The fitter told that the lower arm bushes are worn and need replacing.

He said this was a common fault on VAG vehicles, Can anybody confirm this.

Also how much should I expect to pay to have them replaced.

Roomie on 08 plate with approx 40k miles.

Season greetings to all forum members.

Still lovin' my Roomie

Yes I had the same done to mine. Common fault as the original ones have hollow air spaces which wear quickly, best replaced with uprated solid poly aftermarket ones or Seat ones. I think those are from the Cupra?

Bushes themselves are relatively cheap, was £12 for originals or £18 for uprated ones when i got it done. Expect to pay a good deal more for the labor.

I don't think I got ripped off as I use a well-reviewed garage, but still probably not the cheapest. Off the top of my head I believe I paid somewhere around £80 per side. If only I could do my own work on the car..... :wall:

I think there are quite a few threads on briskoda about it.

Saw this on a Seat forum thread which goes along with it.

I also had new console bushes fitted (rear bushes on front wishbones) and David recommended upgrading from the standard 130 TDI voided bushes (hollow air gaps) to the Cupra solid bushes. This has mad an amazing difference, car feels so much more sorted. I think they were only 20 quid a pair but are a right pig to fit.

+1 fit the solid SEAT Cupra ones. Much better

the original bushes had only a thick vertical piece of rubber, skoda have revised the design of the bushes and now the bushes have like an X of rubber these seem to be better

the solid ones when used in the fabia mk 1 VRS are reported to transfer a bit more noise and vibration from the engine / transmission to the cabin

There’s a lot in the Fabia forums, and it’s a common Roomster thread. I have had an advisory on my 07 Roomster regarding bush wear at 40k.

Make sure someone does the tracking after. My daughters Polo needed 2 new tyres due to this omission ,after front bushes were replaced.

Definitely noticed that once I switched. Low revs that previously were manageable now are annoying. I find myself changing gears at minimum 1250 rpm now.

On the bright side, I hope less vibration means a longer life for the flywheel, and the handling has majorly improved.

Thanks for the info guys. Just need to get a quote from my local garage now.

Just stick to the "X" type bushes..

.or fit uprated ones from Powerflex or SuperPro which will allow the suspension arms to move correctly in the desirered plane .....and way better than than the Cupa ones...

Just had my MOT today and she passed again :-)

Only had 1 advisory which was the lower wishbone bushes are starting to perish.

Can't really complain as my Scout 1.9 tdi has now done 85K and still going strong with just the usual routine servicing so far.

Looking at some of the posts on here I should be looking at around £ 160 plus the bushes?

Does that seem about right?

I'll be using my local specialist garage who has done all the work on my roomie .

Sounds about right, your lucky to have gone on for so long.Mines at 40k and I've had an advisory.Might be a bit to tricky for DIY,although I try to do all my own servicing ,brakes etc. Dont forget the tracking, hopefully that's included in the price.
