What Would Cause The Asr Light To Stay On?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

On my way to work today my RS started to run lumpy at around 3,000 rpm. After this the ASR light on the dial come on and the using the button had no effect on the light. Also I noticed that there was a strange whoosing sound from the engine. Could it be that the DV has failed? If so how would this affect the traction control?

No but when I got to work I turned the engine off and on and the light went out. I aslo spoke to my garage who said they hadn't come across this problem before. It could be a failed coilpack but the car seems to running on all cylinders. I'll see what happens on the way home tonight.

Hi all,

I think the problem is a failed DV? I took the car out for a run at lunchtime. And what I found out was that under normal driving conditions the car is fine. However, when pushed there is a whoosing sound (it sounds like a tyre thats being let down too quickly) and the car runs lumpy.

The ASR light didn't come on this time. My next question is how easy is it to replace the DV and what is the prolonged effect of a failed DV on my RS?

Lloyd

you will hear one of 2 noises... if the dv is jammed open then the whoosh will result in little / no boost... or the other noise will be the wastegate going mental as it will be working hard in lieu of the dv..

lloyd.. i have a std plastic dv if u need one and are out of warranty..?

Hi ffelan,

I am still under warranty but I changed the standard DV for a Forge one over a year ago. So it looks like I'll have to stump up the cash for a new DV? I am off to my local dealer first thing tommorow to get them to have a look at it for me.

P.S I just had a thought is it possible for the DV to stick? Jon (TaviaRS) gave me some grease to use on my DV but I didn't get round to it. I am going to try some of the grease tonight

This site has an mpeg of a "honking" diverter valve. Apparently, it's the sound made by a DV that can't hold pressure.

Can't see how this could affect the ASR - perhaps that's a separate problem? (something like a dying ABS wheel sensor?)

Just had another brainwave, it could be one of pipes from my dual ICs that has worked its way loose? I'll get the gararge to check this out at the same time they are doing a diag on the ASR light staying on.

FYI,

Had my car check over by my dealer and it is the DV (Forge DV006) that isn't working correctly. Because the DV wasn't working it was also tripping out the ASR!! I'll will be greasing the DV tonight with the grease supplied by Jon. Guess I should have done this sooner.

Yep. I do mine every 10k miles. Only takes a few minutes and saves scaring myself with warning lights on the dash :D
