Throttle Cleaning question

Featured Replies

Hey, so i read up about cleaning the throttle body on my vrs mk1 so i set to it and it wasnt too bad but had a nice covering, now is all nice and shiny but i noticed that the butterfly doesnt shut 100%, is this normal or is it a problem?

The car feels smoother and feels like ive gained some ponies but could be my imagination lol

what's more important, the feel or the look?

i guess the feel but if its broke id rather replace it lol

is not brake, impossible to be broken and run fine :)

Should be a slight gap. :)

There is a slight gap, but if you have unplugged the throttle asm you may need to re calibrate it

Pffft. Never had to with mine. 3 times without issue. A few runs and it all resets itself.

Yes you should have a gap around the butterfly flap, & the throttle body will self adapt over a few driving cycles so no need to calibrate/adaptation.

Yes it is true you do not need to calibrate, but as I have vagcom I check and set anyway, coz i am a fussy git...

The car does re learn over the appropriate driving conditions and or you can also unplug battery to do the a reset

:giggle: Probably, something about it doesn't feel quite right in this current weather :wonder:

I took mine off twice, once to clean it and once when i did manifold swop and never calibrated it, just left it to relearn on its own

great thanks. wasnt sure as my previous car was an mr2 and it used to snap shut fully so thought id make sure.

i left it plugged in and attacked it with carb cleaner and a rag, nice and shiny now, i was expecting it to be really coked up but it wasnt too bad just patchy
