Weitecs - No Need To Grease Threads?

Featured Replies

Can't see a reason too, copper grease I've always found a bit gritty and messy anyway and I've noticed the adjuster actually has a plastic thread! So there shouldn't be any seizing of threads through winter etc

Am I right in thinking this?

Assembling them today :)

If it has a plastic thread fella i wouldnt think they need grease

I' d still grease the coil myself. Being a plastic adjuster, when they have been on a while the road grit and salt will harden on the thread. You try moving the adjuster and you may strip the threads on that. At least with a bit of grease on the coil itself', it will be relatively easy to clean off after so less likely to clog and knacker your adjuster.

i would spray some silicon grease on there if it were me.... corrosion from water ingress kills everything, even plastics

Don't be fooled into thinking you'll be alright just leaving them.

I did the same, and six months later it took a whole load of time and effort to get em to move!

Haha ok thank you for your input, glad I posted :) I think I might try some motorbike chain lube spray we have in the garage, shouldn't be quite so thick but still hold good protection abilities.

Use something which won't degrade the plastic either.

I'd probably use dielectric silicone grease or vaseline myself.

If they are not stainless bodied coil overs you still run the risk of seizing. I would grease the threads then cover any exposed threads with something like self amalgamating tape
