PD160 + strut

Featured Replies

SEAT in Newbury has a spare set at the moment as it was mistakenly ordered twice.

if you wanted to fit it asap, give them a buzz.

might not be available for long :)

Hmm weird it shows it as 'pd160 + strut' still -

I mean PD160 intake + SEAT Ibiza Strut brace, just to clarify

pd 160 what?

I think he's referring to the PD160 air intake, rather than an entire PD160 engine ;)

I sure hope so ;)

Edited the title though for clarification.

Basically it's the parts as per this site. I just fitted the PD160 air intake (two parts involved). Not too expensive either ;)

The fitting - follow the guide on this site, it's very clear.

Only gotcha I found is that the clips don't come out too easily. For me the easiest was to pry a flat screwdriver against one side of the clips such it came out from left/right, then it will just kinda rotate out.

The sensor cable comes out real easy, just make sure you unclip it properly as you wouldnt want to damage the clip :D

Now I just need to get the strut fitted & inform the insurance company

You don't even need to take the sensor cable out if you use a stubby screwdriver. As you said a flat blade driver gets the trumpet clips off no problem.

I was able to get to it (the crosshead-screw) without taking the sensor cable out, just did it when I took the engine cover off.

The right-hand side of the pipe is a very tight fit but my fingers & car escaped unharmed

It doesn't look out of place in the car :D

As for the strut brace, my mate has a garage, will be dropping it by him tomorrow as it's easy to fit when you have the right tools for the job, and I want him to check it over (making sure I don't overtighten/undertighten those bolts, me likez having suspension still physically attached to the car  )

Was gonna paint it green at first but can't be bothered now, and the dealer would fit it but they haven't got a courtesy car till Tuesday (not their fault, I gave them about a minute notice I would like to get that done ;))

Originally I had been told they'd be able to fit the bits, but today I was told they couldn't fit the PD160 intake as it would alter the engine. Strut was fine as it's purely mechanical?

Call me a cynic but what is a pipe other than a bit of mechanical stuff. One is hollow and lets the air through, the other is a strut which is (hopefully) a tad more stiff :D

Either way, my mate can fit it as he's had a garage for as long as I've known him and it's a piece of p*ss to fit according to the instruction sheet supplied :D

Is it possible to fit the strut brace yourself?

Also How much did you pay for these two parts as I want to get them next month...

You can fit it yourself. I would however recommend you have a tool allowing you to set the amount of torque to 25Nm - this is why I'll be visiting my mate who has a garage.

You can probably buy that tool for not too much dosh.

Parts cost:

6LL129618 - AIR DUCT - GBP12.51

6LL129621 - AIR DUCT - GBP12.51

6L0071710 - BRACE - GBP42.54

Enjoyable total of 67.56 + 11.82 VAT = 79.38

I know both bits say AIR DUCT - one is the pipe, the other one the little bit.

Main reason I posted the new thread was to allow you to get the parts real quick if you wanted them.

@Phil - cheers for the link, strangely I couldnt find it back earlier. I got my part number from the 'suspension mods for the Fabia'. Weird right?
