BREAKUP/SPARES VALUE?

Featured Replies

I have owned my 02 Fabia 1.9TDI Elegance Estate from new and it has done 190,000 trouble-free miles and been an absolutely brilliant car: rock-solid, a pleasure to drive and so economical.

However, I'm now living permanently in France and, stupidly, let road tax and insurance run out while it was over here, instead of driving it back to the UK and making arrangements to get rid of it there.

Re-registering and importing the car into France would cost over £600 and insurance would be £500+ and I simply can't afford/justify the expenditure for what wiould be a second car (to new Yeti.) Continuing to insure it in the UK is possible, but a bit dodgy legally, as far as the French are concerned, and the UK premium would be very expensive.

Could anyone give me roughest of ideas of a sensible asking price for the car? There are markedly fewer Skodas of that era around in France than in the UK, so I'll reduce a UK valuation to reflect that and I realise that it might not even be worth doing any more than phoning a breaker to come and take it away for nothing.

(Hardly relevant, I know, but the MOT runs until the end of May and there are 4 Michelin tyres with less than 5,000 m wear.)
