DVD copying problem

Featured Replies

If I copy a commercial DVD using either Nero Recode or DVD Shrink I can replace adverts, previews, etc. with a still image to save disk space. However if I replace (say) 5 minutes of film previews with a still image this still image also 'plays' for 5 minutes. Does anyone know of a way of cutting this play time down (apart from using fast forward)?

I use dvd decrypter to extract just the film from the DVD and then use DVD2ONe to compress the image down to 4.7GB ready to burn with Nero burning rom dvd-video option, not nero recode.

Is there not an option to just remove unwanted content, rather than replace it with a blank screen of any given duration?

ME TOO - excellent programs too

Thanks for all the info - lots of things to try. I've had no problem just ripping the film only, but the problem was when I wanted to keep some menus or additional content as well as the film. As I've said a preview or whatever, can be replaced with a blank screen but the blank screen was displayed for the same time as the item it replaced.

I'll give vobblanker a try.

Just an update.

VobBlanker worked very well. So the sequence of processing is:

1) Use DVD Decrypter to remove copy protection

2) Use VobBlanker to blank bits of the DVD not required

3) Use either DVD Shrink or Nero Recode to fit the DVD on to a 4.7gb disk. DVD Shrink seems to give more control on sizing but Nero is still needed for burning (DVD Shrink automatically switches to Nero).

I use DVDXCopy - platinum version allows you to select what to copy - compresses it if required or you can use the Xpress version which finds just the movie and copies that only

I have a spare copy - PM me to arrange ;)

Goods news....by the way, you don't need Nero to burn as DVD Decrypter can burn also. In DVD Shrink, when you click backup, scroll down the drop down list and there will be an option to create ISO and burn with DVD Decrypter. I always use DVDD for burning rather than Nero.

 Thanks; I'll give it a try next time
