Intermitent problem

Featured Replies

I have a 1998 S reg Octavia TDi (90 bhp) which on some days is nice and smooth, pulls well and idles flat. The next day it can be louder, doesnt pull as well and seems to idle a bit rough when you come to a stop. It sorts itself out after 4 or 5 seconds but its embarassing in town, the whole car vibrates.

The car has 75K on the clock and SSH up to 60K the last 15K has been serviced at a normal garage.

Any ideas?

Has it been checked recently on a diagnostic machine (dealer or VAG-COM) to see if there are any error codes logged?

Could be the MAF sensor or EGR Valve or solenoid?

It has not been on a diagnostic machine recently. Will error codes still log if the engine light has not come on?

If it makes any difference it seems to run better on warm/hot days.

Are there any tricks I can try before I book it into skoda for a full diagnostic check?

I have taken the car to VW for them to check for fault codes, there where none. A technician took the car out and as soon as he noticed the shudder he just repeated what Skoda had told me "they just do that"....great just what I wanted to hear. They tell me its a glich with the ECU and the only solution is a new ECU....which I deffinately cant afford.

So now VW and SKoda have both come to the conclusion that "they do that" and there doesnt seem to be any fault codes...what do I do?

I cant believe its a glich that has been there the whole time as it seems to be getting worse...I pulled up at some traffic lights today and it must have been sat there shuddering and sounding like a tractor for 20 seconds before it sorted itself out.

I am considering getting rid of it and I have only had it about 2 months!
