Loud whistling from my turbo....

Featured Replies

... I always worry when it starts making the noise it does. But thankfully where someone might brick it, I am fairly confident I know what's happened. Yet again, the T.I.P connection on to the turbo has started slipping off so the turbo is getting unfiltered air, and I get a quite loud turbo whistling.... Something geometrically isn't quite right and eventually over time, the pipe does pop off....

last time I even slapped some gunk to try and seal/stick it, as well as keep on with the jubilee clip. And whilst it has lasted a lot longer than the last time (around 6 months I think) it needs doing again [sigh!] I'm under the car over the weekend drying out the PAS angle sensor, so will simply do two jobs under there, rather than the one....

Let's hope it is the pipe and not the turbo!

I've gotta check the black car again over the weekend.

Since returning from Cornwall at Christmas it now sounds like it's supercharged!

Whistling like a goodun so i reckon i've got a loose pipe somewhere

I know the turbo is fine as it boosts as per normal. Its just the noise which has changed noticeably because it is spooling up without the turbo intake pipework muffling the noise. Plus I also have a big hole in the bulkhead almost right where the turbo is (for wiring) so I have a way of being able to hear it boosting from inside. :D

This is interesting cos mine is whistling a bit...how difficult is this out of interest

On a stock turbo, this shouldn't happen. Its only because I have a GTB2260vk turbo with custom alloy intake pipework and silicone bends, that this happens at all.

Ah thanks dude. Just normal wear and tear knackered old 100K standard turbo whistling then :)

( Still going mind you...its just the waiting game of when to replace or not, PD150 whenever I feel its worth investing, maybe sooner that later )

Sorry not to hijack your thread tho

I bet that sounds good when it's boosting up!

Rather chavvy if you ask me. It actually dumps the boost out the same way - so I get proper loud spool whistle and TSSSHHHHH!

My turbo makes a weird noise on boost.. Its like... If you got a sharp knife and scraped it on a steel surface for a second or so - I get that but its really quite - Not loud.

Well all fixed. This position for my car is now regularly practised and I bloody love those ramps! Free too! Camera had a twilight zone freakout though

The offending joint, now thoroughly put back on, and I managed to get a 9/32 small ratchet on to it, so its done up a lot tighter than ever before (just using stubby flat screwdriver)

The angle sensor is now out, along with a good 50ml of water.... and once its air dried for a bit, I'll be bolting that back in too.

Looked into fitting a mikalor hose clamp instead of a normal jubilee jobby?
