Urgent key help?

Featured Replies

Replaced my key earlier, just the casing, I removed the circuit board and the blade, and put them in the new casing, now the car cuts out and the Key light symbol keeps flashing when using the new key? Is there an immobiliser chip in the old key that I haven't replaced?

Yes there is, it looks like a small glass cylinder.

Just found that, how do they come out?

Yep fordfan's right. you'll need to eb careful getting it out though as if you braek it you'll be b*ggered. use acetone nail varnish remover, give it a good soak and use either super glue or blue tac to hold it in place. Have a look at this- should help you out

It's out, in one piece, that got my heart racing for a second or seven haha!

Great,

Was concerned you'd try and dig it out and break it... that would havebeen expnsive. I had to do the wifes key after christmas after she'd ****** it up!

I was going to cut around it, know how expensive they are from other cars! Nail varnish remover worked a treat though :).

Sorted!

Evening all

Good to hear it went well DKB.

Can anyone reccomend a good supplier of casings? Need to do mine.

Cheers.

Al

I got I for SWMBO's Seat at christmas. Not quite VW quality but good none the less. changing it over was a doddle if you followed the instructions. Only things you needed to be careful with were getting the transducer out- see above, and getting blade swapped over with the correct spring tension was a bit fiddly, but thta woud be the same on any key case you bought. You'll need a decent quality cross head driver that's the right size to get the small cross head screw that's under the badge out that holds the front 1/2 of the key fob together and a sharp knife to get the old badge off your old fob to get at thye screw too and some acetate nail varnish remover for the transducer

not worth going to 'go compare' as it's only a tenner.........

He has genuine ones if you prefer for £35
