Rubbing issues with BBS CH 18s?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Wondering what way you tackle rubbing with 18s. At the minute my RS is on it's original 16s with 205 55 tyres and lowered very slightly on FK highsports. The gap between my coilover and tyre is less than my little finger as it is. Now, if I was to buy a set of BBS CH 18s with 225 40 tyres would they rub the coilover or arch? with spacers surely it would rub the arch? It's something I have no experience with at all but a set of 5x100 replicas with new Falken tyres has come up for €500 and it's quite tempting.

The car is my daily and I do 300 miles a week in it so I cannot afford to have any issues, should I just stick with standard?

Thanks,

Michael

hey micheal, you need to know the offset of the new wheel first off, that determines where the wheel sits in the arch in relation to the hub

Yeah, I asked the seller and all I got was the PCD. :giggle:

He had them on a mk4 golf with no issues. I only assumed that they'd be the same as original BBS CHs but they are 8.5 wide? These are only 8..

With the wider rim am I looking for the same offset ~35? or more to keep it free from the coil springs?

should say the offset on the back face, reps arent always the same as gens, often pcds can be different and offsets to match.

Speak to lloyd, he knows a lot about offsets, and has gen bbs chs

Your 16s ?

Is it a estate ? So 16 inch spiders mate ?

Genuine ch's will be 8.5 wide and et30 so you'd need 215/35/18s really and pull a lil stretch

Guessing with lil finger depth i'll asume a scientific 8-10mm lol

If reps prob et35 8j ( most commonly )

Estates ive come to understand do run in to more rubbing issues than hatches.... But a falken is usually a nice rounded shoulder tyre so will help a lil

What offset and width are your 16s bud ?

To add.... After a second read

Yeah bud.... If u want easy 18s then a 5x100 pcd on a 8x18 rim

225/40/18s are used throughout alot

Some octys randomly rub but usually the outside when loaded

I managed 225/30/20s pretty low with no real issues

It's a hatchback, just an early 2002 one and it's an Irish car so we were a little further behind with the flash things like 17s, digital aircon control etc.

It is on original 16 spiders. To be honest I only want it low enough that it doesn't look like it's on stilts.

Is there much difference between 225 40 R18 and 205 55 R16 circumference/height?

So et35 8j replicas with 225s should be ok yeah?

Sorry, they're actually 215 40 R18s. :)

I think they look smart for reps.IMAG0237.jpg

Yeah i reken bud

Prob the most comon size on here bud

Just stick with rounder shouldered tyres :)

This was the same

wheel porn :p

they do look smart Michael!

With 215s they will fly on

The only thing i may say ( not being mean mind )

You'd prob wana try deck it say the tyre dont look small on the octy

Your speedo will be a lil out too but prob not too much

I'll nosey around later to confirm how much bud

But either way :)

Will look sweeeet

What colour is ur octy

The 215/40 youd be a diddy bit faster than speedo

Its about 10mm smaller it seems

Will look sweet mate :)

It's black,

I can slam it if the notion takes me because it's on coilovers.

So at et35 and 215 wide am I right in thinking that all I'm doing is adding 5mm width to each side?

Actually did a rough calculation there and is it possible that the 18s would have a smaller circumference.

16s came out as 1.986 metres and 18s as 1.977 metres

Ooo got pic showing now, look tidy mate

Plus.... They got it rite too

As most reps put the extra tracking holes on :p

Which vag bbs's dont have

Go for it bud ;)

the wheels being smaller would mean the speedo would be reading higher than my actual speed yeah? I know it's only tiny but still.

Will look sweet mate :)

If they r indeed et35 and 8j rims and 215tyre

Kachow ;)

Yummy rims
