1.6 CR turbo problems

Featured Replies

On some of the taxi forums they are saying stay away from the 1.6 CR tdi as they are blowing turbos by the shed load.

They recon that due to the engine being of a small capacity and under powered, drivers are having to rev them harder to get moving.

I personaly wish Skoda would fit a 1.9 CR with 130 BHP, as the old 1.9 tdi was bulletproof

As a member of the biggest VAG club in Denmark, I can add, that I have not heard of one single case of a defective turbo on the 1.6 TDI. Yet... :)

In my area anyways never heard of any problems with the 1.6 TDI superb or octavia in the taxi trade only complaint I heard that they missed the pulling power of the 1.9 and they were great engines had 3 of them no problems what so ever the only problem that I ever heard of one in my area is one of the other taxi drivers had a octavia a4 shape 2007/56 he put 190,000 miles on it and 4 days before he was about to trade it in for a 1.6 octy 61 plate the turbo blew but Arnold Clark still gave him his full price for the px

And btw skippy seen your post on taxi driver online (I'm united taxis 11 over there) dont know what townhalltaxis is goin on about as far as I heard the trade up here is doin fine with the 1.6 TDI

Yip seams all good up our way in the taxi industry. Theres a friends company that has 2 Caddy's only a couple if years old and got moon miles. Theres a few Octavia's with the same engine no major problems. I have a Superb and although its only got 18226 on its done 5k in 3 months. Hope to see alot more trouble free miles too.

Sounds a bit iffy you dont often see a Taxi going fast enough around here to blow anything up.

The 1.6 has plenty of low down grunt IMHO. Not as much as the bigger engines but its still enough.

What about the DPF though???

I have had my 55 plate 1.9 for nearly 4.5 years and have done 228K so far, I am kind of reluctant to changing it, when I read about the turbo problem

the 1.6 should be fine not personally heard any probs don't thrash it with full throttle and service as said and should be okay
