Strange noise when going off on 1 gear

Featured Replies

Hi.

We have an Octavia 1998 with a 1.6 engine.

First of all we have lots a snow now and it quite slippery so the wheels spins a lot.

The problem is when standing still and start going forward on 1st gear it makes a strange sound, maybe something like a smaller loose spring that go off, hard to explain the sound(this is when the tires start to spinn a little)

Also it make a jerk an loose the drive forward for a 1 or half a second, feels like it's more distinct when turning left or right. can this be when it shifts form the spinning wheel to the other one?

This sound can also be heard when braking so that the ABS goes in, but not as distinct as when starting.

Do we have a bad CV joint? or differential?

Is this something that needs to be fixes asap if so?

We have not experienced this before, it seams to be related to the icy roads that we have now.

Please help!

its kinda hard to understand your description because of the language barrier but from what i can read, this is what i think your saying

when setting off in 1st gear - just as the wheels spin you get a bang, or boing or similar?? and the same again when braking???

just ti illiminate something, try it with the drivers door open, as i have had some hinge problems that created this noise. could also be loose bolts in the subframe. a better description would be helpfull if you can so we can help further

I understand, I had some trouble to try to describe it.

The sound comes after a second or two of spinning as the hickup in the forward driving comes also, like a antispinn goes in, but don't think that the car has that at all.

Sound is like some loose metall vibrating.

I do also have some clunking noise from both wheels when riding on a bumpy road, probably worn bushings somewhere, but not related to my first problem I think?

it sounds like esp to me, i think you may have it. Do you have an esp or an asr button on the dashboard.

That message was a better description now by the way i understand this time

No i dont't have that button on the dashboard, but today I when drove my caddy i could actually feel the same thing when i think the switch from one spinning wheel to another occurs, but its much more smooth, I guess I have worn joints or bushing that cause this to be more violent bang on our octavia and the vibrating sound might just be something loose in the enginebay that vibrates from a spinning wheel that digs into the loose snow... Can I be right?

yes probably a rear wishbone bush it tired or something, i would let it get worse so its easy to find, but you need to make your own decision on that one
