Noisy Yeti!

Featured Replies

I have noticed over the last 10,000 miles or so that the Yeti has been getting more and more noisy when starting from cold, it was -1'C this morning and I decided to record the noise for a few opinions.

My car has 64,000 miles on it now, it has another 14,000 miles or there abouts until the next service and it sounds like this, what does your diesel Yeti sound like on a cold start?

You will need your speakers turned up

my last yeti made a clonking noise on tickover (deeper sound than your recording).

it was the dual mass flywheel banging which was then replaced under warranty.

I'm not saying that is your noise but worth bearing in mind.

Can't listen; at work.

Remember that at the moment it is cold so the oil is thicker, plus the engine mounts will be slightly harder, plus I bet your oil level has dropped slightly.

In the last 5k or so before my service is due I think my sounds rougher and I know the fuel consumption worsens.

Sounds pretty normal to me....

Sounds noisier than mine and it was -10C when i set off this morning!

Then again i have a different engine variant (1.6) and i don't have the same sort of mileage either.

It doesn't sound abnormal compared to my old VW but that had an older engine variant (PD).

I do agree they tend to sound rougher when they get closer to servicing so it might just be that.

Doesn't sound right to me,does it get better when hot?

Sounds just like mine.

it has less of the thud thud thud when it is warm.

I have been to Nottingham and back today ran well so I will keep using it, if it gets worse then a light will come on or it will stop I guess.

Does sound pretty familiar. Sort of normal Dieselish.

Not lost the engine cover or undertray by any chance? The first not likely, unless someone forgot to replace it. I did lose an undertray once.

Did it sound like that before it mated with the Porsche and was badly repaired?

The thudding noise has been getting worse as the months pass, Yeti was undetectable by the wifes ears when I go out early morning she could sleep through, but now she wakes up because she can hear the car thud thud thud

I think it might just be because of the high milage, lord help us when it rolls over 100K

Hey c'mon, 64,000 is hardly high mileage, probably just about run-in.....I think you are worrying about nothing.

Not a lot I agree, but in only 17 months it takes a bit of doing :giggle: Yeti doesn't get much time to rest.
