vRS Airbox Limitation

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Quick one this time!

How much bhp is the standard airbox good for? At what bhp level would it struggle to flow enough air? (MK2 Oct vRS TFSI).

Thanks for any info,

Stu.

The stock airbox is fine for all the stages of tune from stage 1 upto stage 2+, however you wont achieve the highest figures. I kow of a fair few people runing stock intakes on stage 2+ remaps puely because they dont like the noise of an intake so loosing 10-15Hp peak isnt a problem.

Stage 1 Stock intake approx 235-240

stage 1 with Intake 240-245Hp

Stage 2 with stock intake and uprated exhaust 250Hp

stock 2 with stock intake and uprated exhaust 260-265Hp

stage 2+ with stock intake, uprated exhaust, intercooler, fuel pump 265-270hp.

stage 2+ with intake, uprated exhaust, intercooler, fuel pump 270-280hp.

As you can see intakes give between 8-15Hp typically dependant on software and brand of intake, but its not essential at any satge other than a turbo upgrade like GT28 etc

Thank-you for taking the time to post. Really appreciate the help - Very informative and definitely useful for future upgrades

I actually like the noise open intakes make. My friend has a modified Zafira GSI, which sounds great.

I can't bring myself to buy one though after reading up on the poor filtration properties! Don't want to kill my engine in the long term.

Have a look at ram air they use sponge type so suppose to be better for filtration that k&n style

Mine makes 245 bhp and 284 lb ft with a stage 1 map and ITG air filter. Stage 2+ is next and hoping for 270

Hope fully a bit more now you have the BCS exhaust

Mine ran fine at Stage 2+ with the OE airbox and a paper filter. I doubt very much you would notice a deal of difference on the road between my old car and one with an intake. Plus some intakes have been known to give irregular figures and that can affect how the car runs and can give varied results.

I wish Skoda had designed the air box like the new Fords. Just changed my air filter for another standard Ford paper filter and it is a large cone filter housed in an air box. Larger than the filters used on the intakes for the TFSI's, which I was surprised to discover.
