What Tyres?

Featured Replies

Not for driving in the snow at winter as most tyre threads seem to be.

I am going to do a few track days this year and I would like to know what tyres people are using who have been to the track in the past.

I am looking at a few possibilities,

First, brand new track day Yoko's at about £140 a tyre and get a second set of wheels so I can swap them when going to the track.

Second, Part worns, matching set if I can get them and as above on a second set of wheels.

Third, I was looking at Nankang budget tyres, I have read a few reviews and they seem to get a descent write up even as far as to say "as good as Yokohama's" So do I get these on a second set of rims?

oh, the fourth is to just run the wheels and tyres already on the car which are Dunlop Sport Maxx that Skoda fitted from new.

All advice gratefully received.

Thanks

maxxis Z1's 70-80 quid a tyre, work in the wet, and (from experiance) in the hot summer days ROCK (mullering paradas on the ring)

Whatever you use bear in mind they will get hammered on edges front and back,

I did a trackday on matador mp46's and they squeeled like hell in the dry when pushed hard, got rather annoying by end of day

There is always the toyo triple 8's but heard they get abit hairy in the wet

Federal 595 RS-R I was looking at these, they get a good rating for dry grip, they are a reasonable price, etc. etc.

I will have a shop about, I will do the initial 9th Feb on the tyres that are on the car now, see how they go.

I had kumho v70's which are a top track tyre and worth around 15secs a lap around the ring compared to the top road rubber. I got fed up carrying wheels to track days then swoping them over so just use road tyres now and go a bit slower. Still fun and there's no prizes for the fastest car so who cares?
