Big splash + grinding noise = handling differently...

Featured Replies

Managed to hit a puddle on a partially flooded road doing about 55mph - was dark, only saw it when I was on top of it and couldn't swerve right due to oncoming traffic.

Having semi-submerged the car, the nearside front wheel immediately made a grinding/rubbing/rumbling sound so on went the hazards and I slowed to a stop. Got out with a torch and had as good a look around as I could. Nothing seemed amiss and when I pulled away the grinding noise had ceased.

All OK then, or so I thought.

A few days later I'm going down a local road at normal speed and take a bend I'm very familiar with, expecting to sail round said bend as normal. My Octy usually corners like it's on rails, but I quickly find I'm drifting towards the kerb as though I'm driving with a flat or diesel is on the road. Correcting my line I straighten up and when safe to do so pull over, fully expecting to see an airless front tyre when I do a walk around. Tyres all OK...

Being a bit taken aback, I deliberately throw the car through another couple of bends and the handling is lousy - reminding me of my old Cavalier.

I hit the brakes on a straight section and although the car remains in a straight line the ABS doesn't feel as certain as it once did.

I've had no warning lights appear on the dash so am a bit stumped as to what the issue might be. (and don't say my driving style - SWMBO has beaten you to that one).

Any ideas?

you might have knocked the wheel out of allignment. Do you have a place near by which does 4 wheel lazer allignment which also includes toe etc not just tracking? Might be worth getting it checked.

Also, jack it up and see if any of the suspension components are bent, the force might have bent something
