Fabia car lock problem, any key can open

Featured Replies

new lock barrel from skoda is about £30 (unless you know it's had the locks changed before to a different set, then you wouldn't be able to do this)

Hello everyone,

recently i bought Skoda Fabia 1,9 SDI from used car dealer.

And today i discovered that basicly any key can open driver front door without problem, u can open it with screwdiver even, just put it in and turn like u would normaly do. Any ideas how much would cost me to fix this ? Or what could cause this? It's central locking system.

Just to mention that i can't start engine with any key :)

What about starting it? Basically the barrel(s) get worn out over time and you get to the point where a spoon handle or screwdriver works.

thx guys, i got kinda scared when i saw it 1st time :)

i'll get it fixed tomorrow, cheers

Easy enough to change the barrrel yourself by the way! all you need is a small torx key! Dont be fooled into spending a fortune!

£30? I've posted a few times with exact prices from my recipt but I recall is costing more like £70.

I assume the little flap that the key pushes open is jammed open?

Just spray loads of vw40 in and keep playing about with the key in the lock. Do this over a few days and it should be fixed. If not take the barrel out and free the keys in the barrel by hand, they seize up in place over time.

I'm 90% sure this is your problem, sounds exactly the same as my sdi, used to open it with a spoon handle or fiat key, whichever I fancied! Haha

Unless the price has doubled in 18 months....you're wrong

I feel the need to try and find my receipt now! not sure if I gave it to the guy that bought my car or not.

I'll see what I can do!

Well I don't have the recipt but I can quote this from the original post and share the link to the thread I made about 2 year ago.

Just spray loads of vw40 in and keep playing about with the key in the lock.

Not sure what "vw40" is but don't be tempted to use WD40 - it leaves a residue. Either use a proper lock lubricant or something like PTFE lubricant. If this doesn't work try taking the barrel out and then lubricating - may avoid any cost for replacement.

you sure you just got a new barrel and nothing else? seems you got charged a lot if so. Also yours is describes as 'chassis lock' and mine isn't

Nothing els, just the barrel/lock. I needed to take in my V5 so the dealer could order the right barrel. iirc it took about 3 weeks or so for the lock to get deliverd to skoda.

As for vw40... I clearly have vw on the brain! Of course I ment wd40, that's what I used to fix mine In the end, had no more problems after that.
