Under Seat Storage Thing

Featured Replies

I need to remove the under seat storage box thingy on my VRs (Which now I've got it is NICE  ) Has anyone done this or know how to?

I don't really want to try my usual technique of pull wiggle CRACK

isnt it the flipy bit because the cd changer unit slots right in doesnt it?

I wonder why you want to do that???

I hate to say this, but have you tried removing the screws?

I can see two on the one side of mine, one easily accessible on the top front edge and the other at the back vertically up into the seat pan (you'll probably need a Torq bit in a 1/4" ratchet to get to this - unless you've got a stubby Torq driver...). That suggests there's probably another two on the other side which you'd have to take the seat trim off to access - I haven't tried doing the latter but there's a screw at the back, and the front appears to clip into the under seat box...

The easier way would be to take the seat out but the runner bolts need a largish 12-star bit which doesn't appear in everyone's toolbox...

I think what you mean there is that "matt8373" wants to take out the box to fit a CD Changer and you're suggesting he just needs to remove the drop-down lid?

I'm assuming unlike my car the box in question is actually under the passenger seat. Mine has the changer under the passenger seat and the box under the drivers seat.

Looking at both fitments, the whole box will have to come out not just the flap if he's retrofitting a CD Changer. The CD changer seems to screw directly to the seat at a quick glance.

But I might be wrong... :)

hmm yeah , im not sure but it looks like the cd changer slots right in from removeing the flip down bit, and where it goes ontop it covers the whole fromt face of the seat (botom plastic base)

OK - let's try this from another angle, since I agree the front sections will be the same size and the area the flap took up = the area of the CD surround trim

When I said "Looking at both fitments, the whole box will have to come out not just the flap if he's retrofitting a CD Changer." perhaps I should have also explained that I noted that based on the fact that the CD changer is approx 240mm wide whereas the clear width within the box is approx only about 227mm...

Thus the box has to come out...

Sorry didin't make myself clear I need to put a 2 way radio in similar to a taxi one but the hole is not quite big enough so thought about taking that bit out and mounting the radio undrneath. I wish I was fitting a changer but work needs take priority (have wired an fm modulator in for my mp3 player)

So have you found the screws yet? :)

Yes - should be standard on a Fabia vRS - I think it's on the passenger side unless you've got a CD changer when it transfers to the drivers side? Check out page 88 in the handbook - "small objects up to 1kg"

Only found one inside the compartment are there more and if so where had a look from underneath (ooh me back  ) but cant find any more.

As I posted before:

"I can see two on the one side of mine, one easily accessible on the top front edge and the other at the back vertically up into the seat pan (you'll probably need a Torq bit in a 1/4" ratchet to get to this - unless you've got a stubby Torq driver...). Looking at mine under the drivers seat, the first screw is the one at the top right pointing forwards. Then, head in footwell looking towards the back, down the right hand side you can see another bracket at the back of the box - this is fastened upwards into the seat base. The access to this would be from the rear foot well with the 1/4" ratchet as I've suggested. The outer seat trim has a screw visible at the back from the rear foot well and looking towards the front you can see it's clipped into the box at the front. I haven't tried removing that screw, but it's conceivable that it's only the single screw and clip holding that trim on. Taking it off would probably reveal another one or, probably, two screws holding the box in - but then if you take the box out you may find the side trim can't be resecured if it does only clip in at the front besides the back screw - in which case you'd have to fabricate a bracket for the front.

Obviously I don't want to investigate further on my car being quite happy with as it is at the preent time... :)

Update owing to this being discussed on two separate threads.

Both the rear fixings of the box can be accessed from the rear passenger footwell using:

Torq bit, in magnetic holder, in short 75mm extension, on 1/4" ratchet
.

Whilst this would get the box fixings OUT readily, I suspect it would be much more tricky if you wanted to get the box back in again!

And it would be much more striaghtforward to take the seat out if you can.

Note I've also noticed a screw towards the front of the outer seat trim so part of my previous statement is probably not relevant (the "bracket" bit).
