Over shot a corner in the snow

Featured Replies

Like a donut i over shot a corner in the ice hitting a curb with my drivers side front wheel. did a bit of damage to the front wheel which is not to much of a problem as i have a full size spare.

the only problem i have is i am getting a noise now that sounds like a wheel bearing. i have had the wheel off and cant see anything rubbing to i guess it is the bearing.

My question is do i need a press to replace it as i don't have one or is there an alternative like full hub.

thanks for the help

You will need a press to replace the bearing, its a bit of a pain in the arse job as you have to cut the inner race off the hub as the abs ring is in the way,i did mine on my mk1 octy vrs in about 2 hours.

Do you think a heavy wack on the wheel could damage the bearing. i may have to drop it into a garage then if it need pressing out.

Thanks for the reply. very helpful as always

Possibly

Ive done the same in another car. It actually bent the wishbone like a banana and pushed the wheel back so it rubbed on the arch :o

I have had the tracking done today so nothing bend except the wheel or coures. felt like a right **** when i did it.

probably looked like one too lol. bet you were stood on the brakes like a nanna? Once you do that the brain wont let you lift

lol, was messing about down a quiet road. lucky no one around to see it. called myself a few names though.

make sure its not the drive shaft rubbing the chassis leg ive seen it a few times bottom arm bends easy

Could be a cv joint too!! If its the bearing you may be able to feel it by jacking it up and removing the wheel. Push against the disc while turning it... sometimes shows it up. I can have a quick look one evening with you if you need? If it comes to it and you can get the hub to me i can replace the bearing at work if that helps??

The front LCA is deliberately designed to deform before anything else in exactly this situation (kerb strike).

Unless it's something obvious, I'd go straight in for a FLCA change. It's an easy job and genuine arms (ZF Lemforder) are available from GSF for £40-50.

My mate has got it at the moment and thinks it could be gearbox bearings. I hope not!!
